Precious books

I have always loved reading and am now trying out this new site to post my reviews on!

The Little Prince

The Little Prince - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Richard Howard This was such a cute story! Now I wanna learn French so I can read this book in the original language.

The Giving Tree

The Giving Tree - Shel Silverstein Even though I have some problems with the morals of this story (it's about a tree giving everything to a boy, and the boy just taking everything without giving anything back, I still enjoyed it. It made me sad but also kind of in a good way, like the ache when something is beautiful.

Anthem

Anthem - Ayn Rand I didn't really find this enjoyable, but that's probably just me.

K-9

K-9 - Justin Richards The graphics were awesome, but that was about the only thing I liked. No new information about K-9 here.

All My Friends Are Dead

All My Friends Are Dead - Avery Monsen, Jory John I just read this and I can't stop laughing. That was a-ma-zing. Like, really. Go read it right now.

1984

1984 - George Orwell, Erich Fromm Okay so this book nearly made me puke. And not even in a bad way. The story it told was so horrible that it really got to me and I got extremely nauseous, but isn't that exactly what this book was meant to do? All the best books make you feel things, and this is certainly one of them.

Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops

Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops - Jen Campbell Oh man, this was both horrible and amazing to read. Can you believe the stupidity of the human race? Some of these things really made me lose my faith in humanity. That said, it was also very funny and entertaining to read and to be very honest, it always makes me feel better knowing that I'm apparently just a teensy bit literary educated because I would never make these mistakes.

Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland - Rene Cloke, Lewis Carroll 3,5*, probably.

Do not read this book if you're expecting something like the movie. Pro tip. This book is batshit crazy, and I'm not yet sure if that's good or not. Don't say I didn't warn you. That said, I kinda enjoyed this book but it was all just a bit too weird and random for my liking.

Nimona

Nimona - Noelle Stevenson THIS WAS SUCH A CUTE READ and I think this is my new favourite comic. If you haven't read this, you should read it right now! It even made me squee a few times. I just finished it and I can't stop fangirling so go and read it!

The Wicked + The Divine, Vol 1: The Faust Act

The Faust Act - Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie ART. That's what describes this in one word. Both the storyline and the artwork were AMAZING and I just really enjoyed it. A story about gods or mythology is always good, but this one was extraordinarily and I can't even quite pinpoint why but this was an awesome read.

Redemption: Supernatural Time-Traveling Romance with Sci-fi and Metaphysics

Redemption: Supernatural Time-Traveling Romance with Sci-fi and Metaphysics - Jacklyn A. Lo Redemption follows the story of Ann, a successful business woman who thinks she has everything under control. Well, everything from the nightmare that she keeps having: an endless spiral which really sets her off. Unable to cope with her bad dreams, she decides to visit a psychic who ‘makes’ her relive her past lives in order to get to terms with her current life.

As some of you have probably noticed, this book took me almost a month to read. However, that fact does not mean that I didn't enjoy Redemption! Quite the opposite, I found this book to be very entertaining and when I finally found the time, I read through it very quickly. It mixes sci-fi with philosophy and spiritual motives and it turned out really well.
I feel like this is one of those books that make me question my own choices and motives. It was most certainly thought-provoking, which is exactly the thing that I keep looking for in books.

I won a free copy of this book - thanks Jacklyn A. Lo for sending this to me!

Love Letters to the Dead

Love Letters to the Dead - Ava Dellaira I loved this book so much. This book only contains letters to famous dead persons. However, it wasn't boring at all, it was more like a story told using letters. It is a coming-of-age novel and I found it to be very well written. It didn't make me cry, but then again: I almost never cry so that's okay.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for fantasy and sci-fi stories but this story actually taught me stuff and made me care about the main character more than any science fiction ever could. There are loads of great quotes and if I grow up to be half the girl she is, I'll be happy.

The Graveyard Book

The Graveyard Book - Neil Gaiman This book was just so weird.. I loved it.

Doctor Who: Who-ology

Doctor Who: Who-ology - Cavan Scott, Mark Wright 3,5*

I wanted to love this book so bad, but I found myself to be skimming loads of the information. Most things just didn't really interest me, probably because I haven't seen anything of Classic Who. However, the things that I DID like, I really loved. 40 ways to defeat a Dalek? Amazing.

Four: A Divergent Story Collection

Four: A Divergent Story Collection - Veronica Roth I really liked diving into the universe of Divergent once more and Four's story was really interesting. However, it didn't give me more information about the events that happened and I don't think I can understand the events better now. But since that doesn't really matter and I still enjoyed the story, I still decided on giving this book four stars.

Dash & Lily's Book of Dares

Dash & Lily's Book of Dares - Rachel Cohn, David Levithan This was a cute read, but it wasn't more than that. I liked how the story had a fairytale-ish feel, and overall, it was a feel-good book that's great to read when you're in the mood.
